I.              Introduction:

In my writing assignment, I have decided to research the remote work policies in a post-pandemic environment.  In my proposed topic, I will describe more deeply what managers and supervisors train their employees to do to have a smooth transition in a remote work environment.  A remote work environment involves not having to commute to work and sit in the office doing busy paperwork, but rather from the comfort of your own home.  Meanwhile, I will delve deeper into what employees had to be prepared for after the COVID-19 pandemic.  The key contributor to having a remote work environment was to have Zoom meetings through a desktop computer and discuss the daily challenges of making it through the day.  If I was not prepared to do work remotely compared to face-to-face, I would not be the only one to get lost not knowing what to do in this permanent setting.  My research question is, “Do remote work policies help employees get things done quicker when it comes to making a 10-hour shift more pleasant and peaceful?”

II.            Gathering Research:

To extend this research further, my source, “Personal Adaptations to Remote Working in the Post-Pandemic City and Its Potential Impact on Residential Relocations:  The Case of Istanbul”, describes how staying at home will reduce fewer trips to the office, less worry about getting into a car crash, and being able to take care of the family more (Paköz & Kaya, 2023).  This reliable source helps me write about how remote work policies can be quite flexible for managers and supervisors to monitor all their employees whether in the office or at home.  Another source that specifically helped narrow my research is the source, “Who Still Works From Home?” (Casselman et al., 2024).  Ever since I quit my previous job at the Oceana Galley in 2019, I have been doing online learning for five years which has benefitted me mentally because I can do all my schoolwork at my own pace.  Even though remote learning might be good short-term, the social skills that I will be losing will significantly decline in the long-term which I will probably adapt to once I try to find a job within the next year or so.  This source will be used to explain what certain demographics will benefit from online learning should they want to balance school and work at the same time.

III.          Critical Assessment:

I think that my proposed topic is very important to explore because students of all ages have to face a crisis where they need to use video recording software like Skype or Zoom to do their classes.  Therefore, parents can’t afford to miss work and stay home with their children.  Meanwhile, it is important that putting family first is what a parent’s priority is in the household to meet the academic goals of their children.  I am interested in this topic, especially making one way of learning is not the best for everyone.  I feel really happy that I chose asynchronous learning because, without online learning, I would be dreading every morning having to drive an hour to school rather than being tardy the majority of the time.  Meanwhile, remote work policies would probably benefit a certain company that has hundreds of employees and has to split the work into teams of two or more co-workers.  The problem that needs to be solved for remote work policies is that different people deal with different problems which is why it comes down to the upper management to put the right people in the right places before hiring them to work in the office or at home.  The reason for this remote work policy is that nobody knows when the next worldwide pandemic will come before having to retrain all the employees again to prioritize all the workers within the company.

IV.          Reflect—Thinking Beyond the Research:

As I reread some of the researched sources on my preferred topic, I feel like I have learned a lot through this academic experience.  I have learned that managers and supervisors are there for their workers should anything bad arise in a contextual sense.  The communication theory that could relate to this topic is the meaning of post language which means that having to balance work and life is a work in progress.  As far as learning about this research project is concerned, I would like to learn more about what makes managers and supervisors very stressful in their jobs and how they would enforce working-from-home policies.
